Terms and Conditions

These Terms govern use of the Bound Reads app and www.boundreads.net, operated by Bound Reads LLC. Please read them before creating an account or making a purchase.

Accounts and eligibility

You must be at least 13 to use Bound Reads. If you are below the age of legal majority where you live, use the service with your parent or guardian’s permission and supervision. Purchases must be authorized by an adult with legal capacity to enter a contract. Areas marked 18+ are for adults only. Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

The service

Bound Reads provides tools for organizing books, reading activity, book clubs, and writing projects. Features and limits depend on the plan and availability. A listing, cover image, review, or affiliate link does not grant access to an ebook or audiobook. Book metadata comes from third parties and may be incomplete or inaccurate.

Memberships and purchases

The price, billing interval, included features, and any trial terms shown at checkout apply to your purchase. Recurring memberships renew and charge the payment method you authorize until cancelled. Where a trial converts to a paid membership, checkout identifies the trial end and subsequent charge. Cancel before the trial ends to avoid that charge. A one-time Author Toolkit purchase is not a recurring subscription and is not a promise that the service will operate forever. Complimentary or promotional access follows the terms provided when granted.

Cancellation and billing help

For a Stripe purchase, use Manage billing on the app’s Pricing page to manage or cancel your subscription. For a purchase originally made through Wix, use that provider’s subscription controls; contact support@boundreads.net if you need help identifying your billing provider or cancelling. Cancellation stops future renewals; paid access normally continues through the current paid period. Deleting an account, removing the app, or erasing personal data is separate from stopping recurring billing. Contact support promptly for an incorrect charge, duplicate charge, or refund request. Requests are reviewed based on the purchase, circumstances, applicable law, and any payment-provider rules. These Terms do not limit refund or cancellation rights required by law.

Your content and ownership

You retain ownership of manuscripts, notes, reviews, messages, and other original content you submit. You give Bound Reads permission to host, store, process, and display that content only as needed to provide the features you use and carry out your sharing instructions. This permission does not transfer ownership or give us permission to publish or sell your manuscript. Shared content is visible to the audience you select, such as club members or invited collaborators. Only upload content you own or have permission to use, and obtain appropriate permission before adding another person’s contact information.

Acceptable use and community conduct

Do not harass, threaten, impersonate, exploit minors, post unlawful content, distribute malware, spam others, or infringe intellectual property or privacy rights. Do not bypass access controls, access another person’s private information, disrupt the service, or misuse automated requests. Respect club rules, age restrictions, and other members’ boundaries. We may restrict or remove content or access to address violations, security concerns, or legal requirements. Report concerns to support@boundreads.net.

Our intellectual property and external services

Bound Reads branding, software, and original site materials belong to Bound Reads LLC or their respective rights holders. You may use the service for its intended purposes but may not copy or resell our software or branding without permission. Book covers, titles, and third-party materials remain subject to their owners’ rights. External retailers and connected services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Affiliate participation does not establish an Amazon or Kindle library integration.

Availability and responsibility

We work to keep Bound Reads available and reliable, but interruptions, errors, third-party outages, and data loss can occur. Keep your own copies of important manuscripts and exported records. To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided as available without a guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing here excludes liability or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes and contact

We may update these Terms and identify the revised date. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate notice before they apply where required. Bound Reads LLC (“we” or “us”) operates www.boundreads.net and the Bound Reads app. Bound Reads is a personal book collection tracker that helps you manage your library, track reading progress, set goals, join book clubs, and (for authors) coordinate advance reader copies. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Website contacts and newsletter. We collect the name, email address, subject, and message you submit through contact forms. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and subscription preferences. We use these to respond and send the communications you choose. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the email or by contacting us.

Account information. When you register, we store your email address and the display name you provide. Your account is tied to a unique user identifier.

Library & reading data. The books, shelves, reading status, progress, page counts, ratings, notes, quotes, highlights, reading goals, challenges, and timeline entries you create. This data is specific to your account.

Book club activity. Club memberships, messages you post in club chats, meeting RSVPs, and feedback you submit.

Author Toolkit data. If you use the Author Toolkit, we store your written works, word counts, advance copy (ARC/ALC) recipient lists, and team rosters you create.

Subscription & membership data. Your membership plan, billing cycle, and transaction status. Payment card details are never stored by us — they are handled entirely by our payment processor.

Optional connected services. If you connect a service such as Google Calendar or Outlook to sync book club meetings, we store only the event references needed to keep that sync working.

Google Sheets backup. If you enable Google Sheets backup, Bound Reads creates a backup spreadsheet of your library and reading data in your own connected Google account. Bound Reads does not retain a separate copy of that spreadsheet.

Technical & usage data. Browser type, device identifiers, and aggregated usage analytics that help us keep the app reliable and secure.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide, maintain, and improve your library, goals, clubs, and Author Toolkit features.

Look up book metadata (titles, authors, covers) from public sources such as Open Library and Google Books to enrich your library entries.

Process membership subscriptions and keep your access level accurate.

Send you in-app notifications, reading reminders, and account-related emails you request.

Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.

Comply with legal obligations.

3. Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information for money. Information is processed by service providers and shared as described below. Website advertising measurement is described in our Cookie Policy; this statement does not mean that third-party tracking is absent.

Community and collaboration: Profile information, club posts, shared book links, and writing materials you choose to share may be visible to the audience for that feature. Take care not to include sensitive information in shared content.

Website and communications: Wix hosts our website and processes contact-form and newsletter information. Our business email uses Google Workspace. Base44 provides the current app platform. These providers process information needed to deliver their services.

Cookies and measurement: Our website uses Usercentrics consent management and has Google advertising measurement technology. Technical and visit information may be sent to those services. See our Cookie Policy and the website’s cookie settings for available choices.

Payment processing: New purchases are processed by Stripe. Existing subscriptions originally purchased through Wix Payments remain associated with that provider unless separately migrated. We share your account identifier, email address, and selected plan with the payment provider to process checkout and manage billing. We receive transaction status and customer, checkout, and subscription references, never your full card number.

Book metadata: Book lookups are sent to Open Library and Google Books APIs to fetch titles, authors, and cover images.

Optional integrations: If you connect Google Calendar or Outlook, meeting details are shared with that provider to create calendar events.

Google Sheets backup: If you choose to use Google Sheets backup, relevant library and reading data is sent to Google solely to create and maintain your backup spreadsheet in your own Google account. You can manage or delete those spreadsheets directly in Google Drive.

Service infrastructure: Hosting and database providers process and store data on our behalf to run the app.

Legal compliance: We may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

4. Data Retention

We keep your library, reading, and club data for as long as your account is active so you can access your full collection history. You can delete individual books, clubs, or your entire account at any time; deletion removes the associated data from active systems. We retain limited transaction and audit records where needed for accounting and security. Backup spreadsheets stored in your Google account are controlled by you and remain subject to Google’s retention and deletion controls.

5. Security

We use access controls and encryption in transit to protect account data. Information you choose to share through community or collaboration features is visible to its intended audience. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

6. Your Rights & Choices

You can:

Access and export your library and reading data from within the app.

Update your profile, theme, and notification preferences in Settings.

Disconnect optional integrations (Google Calendar, Outlook) at any time.

Cancel a membership at any time; access continues until the end of the current billing cycle.

Request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us. We may verify your identity before responding. Settings also offers personal-data and account deletion controls. These are separate from cancelling recurring billing.

7. Children’s Privacy

Bound Reads is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Book clubs may be marked 18+ at the owner’s discretion. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

The app and its providers may process and store data in countries outside your own. By using Bound Reads, you acknowledge that processing may occur outside your country. We remain responsible for complying with applicable requirements; this notice does not replace consent or safeguards required by law.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after a change does not waive privacy rights or replace any consent required by law. Where required, we provide additional notice of material changes.
